A LEADER ROOTED IN THE 46TH WARD

BORN HERE. RAISED HERE. WORKING FOR OUR NEIGHBORS.

A 46TH WARD STORY

Angela’s family has called the 46th Ward home for more than 80 years. Raised in a multiracial, multigenerational family, she learned early that strong communities are built through service, shared responsibility, and neighbors looking out for one another. Those values continue to guide her leadership today.

YOUTH ORGANIZER TURNED COMMUNITY ADVOCATE

Angela attended Joseph Brennemann Elementary School and graduated from Uplift Community High School—the only high school located in the 46th Ward.

Her path to public service began as a student leader and founding member of Voices of Youth in Chicago Education (VOYCE). Working alongside her peers, Angela researched the causes of Chicago’s high school dropout rate and advocated for meaningful reforms. Many of the recommendations developed through that work continue to influence Chicago Public Schools today.

Angela later earned her degree in Public Policy from DePaul University.

PROTECTING THE COMMUNITY SHE CALLS HOME

At just 22 years old, Angela became the youngest president in the history of Voice of the People in Uptown.

In that role, she carried forward the organization’s decades-long mission of protecting and expanding affordable housing for working families, seniors, and longtime residents.

Throughout her career, Angela has remained focused on bringing people together, solving problems, and creating opportunities for every neighbor to thrive.

A MOM WHO SHOWED UP FOR HER NEIGHBORS

During the COVID-19 pandemic, Angela was caring for her newborn daughter while families throughout the community faced unprecedented challenges.

She stepped forward to organize mutual aid efforts, connecting neighbors with food, essential supplies, and critical resources.

For Angela, leadership has always meant showing up when people need help most.

LEADING THE 46TH WARD FORWARD

Since being elected Alderwoman of the 46th Ward in 2023, Angela has turned community priorities into measurable results. Her administration has invested more than $2 million in neighborhood infrastructure, repaired more than 60 sidewalks, improved alleys and major streets, added four Divvy stations, and helped advance accessibility improvements at the CTA Lawrence station. She has also updated zoning across approximately 450 parcels to support responsible housing and economic development.

During her tenure, the ward has experienced significant reductions in homicides, shootings, and robberies. Through each of these efforts, Angela has continued to bring residents into the decision-making process and ensure the 46th Ward’s progress reflects the needs of the people who call it home.
